Description

For a truly “Hollywood” experience, look no further than the old-fashioned Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The restaurant, a landmark since 1941, has long been the gathering place for movie stars, deal-makers, high-society doyennes and the rubber-necking tourists who want a glimpse of them. Some say the food is only ordinary – and of course it’s overpriced, but that hardly matters; it’s all about the experience, and you will feel exceedingly glamorous to get to bask in it. The menu is very Californian, with French and Asian influences. Indeed, Japanese Chef Katsuo Sugiura (or Chef Suki if you’re in the know) was trained in France and has worked in kitchens all over the world. For the old guard, there will always be the classics: steak tartare, tortilla soup and the famed McCarthy salad.

TIPS: Much like another old Hollywood spot, Spago, the sunny patio is an idyllic lunch spot, and it gets crowded so reservations are essential. The excellent breakfast may be a more economical option, at around $40, as dinner can be well over $100 for two – or better yet, try the prix fixe Sunday brunch. Be sure to factor in the cost of valet, too. And remember, one must be dressed.

The Polo Lounge is a great place to relax with friends while listening to live performers. You wont even notice the green carpeting interior when sipping one of their great wines and noshing on their fabulous food! If you don't like smoke, then stay inside because there are frequent cigar smokers at the Lounge. Love Love Love this place!

Ok...let's be honest. We don't REALLY come here for the food. Are there good items on the menu? Of course. Are there 300 other restaurants in LA to have a...

If you're not a celeb, don't expect great service! I recommend lunch on the patio (not dinner). Food is typical fare, but the celeb viewing is juicy and...
