Weekdays 11:15am-2:15pmGentrification hasn’t quite reached the corner of 3rd and Alameda, where the hulking Little Tokyo Shopping Center takes up a full city block. The Center is half vacant, populated by a handful of oddball novelty shops (including one that specializes in all things Hello Kitty), but the 3rd floor is where you’ll find one of downtown’s best-kept seafood secrets. Sushi Go 55 has been dishing out blue crab hand rolls, spicy scallop rolls and yellowtail sushi to eager downtown diners for more than 60 years. At odds with the cinder-block blandness of the Shopping Center, Sushi Go 55 is a warmly lit, cozy oasis of wooden booths and screens, the walls decorated with Japanese art. A small foyer leads into the narrow dining area, where servers bustle between the busy sushi bar and the tables. Lunch is Sushi Go 55’s busiest time, when the chirashi jyu sushi box lunch – which includes soup, salad and appetizer – is a hit with the downtown office crowd.
