There's something undeniably hypnotic in the sound of Malian Touraeg group Tinariwen, which broke through to American audiences with 2007's "Aman Iman" with a joyful mix of haunting, spacey desert blues that carried the band all the way to the Coachella stage. While they haven't changed up the formula too much for the latest album "Tassili" (and really, why would they?) the group's mix of tangled guitars and joyful hand percussion gets a few new layers of shading with contributions from Nels Cline, TV on The Radio's Tunde Adibimpe and Kyp Malone and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. World music, indeed.
