Coconut milk, peanuts, garlic and chili. These ingredients show up in many of the dishes served at Kuala Lumpur Malaysian restaurant. Meaning there's no lack of flavor here.

The diminutive, off-the-beaten-path eatery has developed a loyal clientele. It's a real bargain, especially during lunch, with generously portioned specials topping out at $6.95. Try a huge bowl of curry laksa, which announces itself at the table with the seductive aroma of rich coconut milk, a component of the broth. Among the goodies tucked into the bowl are skinny rice noodles, fried tofu, Chinese broccoli, shrimp and chicken. To cut the richness of the heady broth, squeeze some lime over the surface. One of the most authentic Malaysian dishes on the menu is nasi lemak, which packs enough flavor to get you through the weekend. It features chicken and beef rendang (a preparation that involves stewing the meats in a variety of spices), sautéed calamari, sambal anchovies (anchovies in chili paste), peanuts and eggs. This is served with coconut pandang rice. That's a single dish, mind you.

Kuala Lumpur isn't much to look at. The defining design elements are an aquarium and a drawing of Bart Simpson, by Matt Groening himself, thanking the restaurant for the delicious food. What would Bart have to say about the chendol, a sweet and refreshing coconut milk beverage finished off with plenty of bright green jelly "worms" (they're actually tapioca jelly)? Probably "Gross man!" Surprise Bart--it's delicious!
