UPDATE: As of October 2008, Safari Sam's has temporarily moved to 448 S. Main St, a.k.a. the Regent Theatre.  Expect new details and a new entry soon.  New phone number for the downtown location is posted above.

UPDATE #2: Safari Sam's, the rock venue which just moved downtown after a multi-year run in Hollywood, is now closed. Events will still take place at the Regent, just not under the Safari Sam's moniker. The club owner is reportedly in debt.

Straddling the border between Hollywood and the Eastside is Safari Sam’s, an all-encompassing venue that plays host to indie bands, dance parties and Sunday brunch. The place itself is far from fancy, but functional. The first floor houses the stage, bar and dancefloor while tables for dining (typical greasy-spoon burger fare) can be found upstairs. Smokers are ushered to a roped-off area next to the front entrance (even if you don’t smoke, this area is handy as Sam’s does not have AC). The crowd runs as diverse as the events, which include monthly dance parties Dragstrip 66 and Bootie LA and the weekly country-and-rockabilly Sunday Brunch Americana. Warning though: the vast and free parking lot next door to the club has had a recent problem with, well, people being murdered in it, so be vigilant on the walk back. Sop up the booze with noodles at Sanamluang or keep the party going at The Bar off of Bronson Ave..
